NEOSS hosting Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in Melfort

Oct 30, 2025 | 10:35 PM

November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and a local organization is hoping to shed the spotlight on the issue next week.

North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) is hosting the inaugural Domestic Violence Awareness Walk Nov. 4 at Memorial Garden in Melfort.

Outreach Worker Tracey Zwozdesky told northeastNOW the walk has been held in Nipawin the past three years and has grown each year.

“This year we decided to expand it and also to bring it to Melfort to see if we can get some awareness in Melfort as well and get growing numbers of people here too,” Zwozdesky explained.

The walk will begin at 12:30 p.m. next Tuesday. Participants will start at Memorial Gardens, walk south to Burrows Ave. W., head left to City Hall, then walk east back to Main St. and Memorial Gardens.

“Then we’re going to have some coffee and Timbits that are sponsored by Tim Hortons, as well as some domestic violence awareness cookies that we got from the [Golden Grain] Bakery.”

Zwozdesky said some will be carrying signs about domestic violence and will ask drivers to honk for awareness.

NEOSS will also be hosting a Last Fall Night Out at the Nipawin Legion Nov. 14. The fundraiser’s discussions will focus on domestic violence, the cycles of violence, coercive control, and more. There will also be a DJ, snacks, and drinks. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased through NEOSS.
