Seasonal temperature for Halloween, RCMP advise residents to stay safe

It will be a seasonal Halloween for trick-or-treaters in the tri-communities.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting a high of 2 C on Oct. 31 with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. It will become mainly cloudy by midnight with a low of 0 C.

The RCMP is reminding residents to have a fun and safe Halloween. For trick-or-treaters, they recommend bringing a flashlight, walking instead of running, not cut across lawns or taking short-cuts, taking masks off when walking from one house to the next, only visiting houses that are lit, and not go inside unfamiliar houses or getting into vehicles.

“Vandalism is not just a trick – it is against the law and has consequences,” police warn.

“If you see something, say something. Halloween is popular with criminals too. While you are out in your neighbourhood, keep your eyes open for criminal or suspicious activity, including arson, vandalism and property damage. Report what you see to your local RCMP detachment. In an emergency, call 911.”

Motorists are told to expect the unexpected, slow down and be cautious for pedestrians. The chances of getting into a serious or fatal collision are multiplied when there are lots of kids and teens out on the streets.

“Remember that there will be more foot traffic on Halloween night and that most of it will be excited young children, so leave yourself extra time to navigate residential streets,” officers advise.
