After shutting out the Swift Current Broncos twice in a row last weekend, the Prince Albert Raiders returned home Friday night to welcome the Calgary Hitmen for the first time. The Raiders had the lead and controlled the play for most of the game, but a late push from Calgary would send the game to overtime where the Raiders fell 3-2.

After an icing call in the first seven seconds, the puck would get locked up at centre ice as the Raiders and Hitmen tried to break into each other’s side of the ice with control of the puck. There wasn’t another faceoff until the Raiders found the game’s first goal.

At 4:57, Riley Boychuk corralled the puck in his own zone before sending it behind the net for Max Heise. After taking a few strides up ice, Heise then went on an end to end rush where he split two defenders and ripped overtop of the glove with hardly any room available for Heise’s sixth..

Later in the period, the Raiders were sent on the penalty kill where Justice Christensen was called for holding, but that soon lead to the Hitmen taking a penalty of their own That lead to the Raiders getting an extended 5-on-3 where they even put the puck behind Hitmen goaltender Eric Tu, but a defender swept it away.

At the 7:36 mark, the connection of Jonah Sivertson and Ty Meunier found some work. Sivertson went in below the goal line to collect the puck. He then sent a great pass through the air over defending sticks that landed just in time for Meunier to hammer a onetimer top shelf for his fifth.

At 13:55 though, the Hitmen would get one back on the rush. After a breakout pass from Bobby Williams, Andrei Molgachev came in on the rush and fired a shot into traffic, but then Ethan Moore found the rebound and deposited it into the back of the net.

After 2: Raiders 2 – 1 Hitmen, shots 13-5 Raiders, 25-11 Raiders overall

The third period saw the two teams trade chances back and forth, but later in the period an Owen Corkish attempt to swath the puck off the glass and out, but it instead end up being a delay of game penalty. The Raiders killed that penalty, and then another for slashing behind the play on Hubert Clarke, but the Hitmen had the momentum on their side suddenly.

With nine seconds left in the game, Caine Wilke managed to find a rebound in tight to bury it, and suddenly the Raiders were headed to overtme for the fourth time this season.

After 3: Raiders 2 – 2 Hitmen, shots 12-7 Hitmen, 32-23 Raiders overall

The Raiders got the first chance to score in overtime after winning the initial faceoff, and Brayden Dube got sprung for a partial breakaway before getting stopped. That opened the door for a 2-on-1 Hitmen attack, and Kale Dach was set up for the onetimer that he nailed for the win just 37 seconds into overtime.

FINAL (OT): Raiders 2 – 3 Hitmen, shots 1-0 Hitmen, 32-24 Raiders overall
