Northlands College to provide free dental services to students

Nov 3, 2025 | 4:04 PM

Northlands College has announced a new partnership with the University of Saskatchewan’s Dental Therapy Clinic to deliver 150 free of charge dental care services to students and their immediate family members.

This initiative reflects a $15,000 investment in the health and well-being of the college community. It was made possible through the support of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, provincial and federal dental care plan funders, and local community partners.

“The no-cost dental care plan is a meaningful step toward ensuring our students and their immediate families have access to quality oral care,” said Northlands CEO Michael McCormick.

“It reflects our commitment to equity and aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to strengthen health, education, and opportunity in northern Saskatchewan. We are proud to work with our partners to support healthier, more resilient northern communities.”

The collaboration aims to reduce barriers to oral health care across northern Saskatchewan. Services will be available from Nov. 1 to June 30, 2026, or until funding is fully utilized.

Dental services will be provided at the dental therapy lab at the Northlands College Canoe Campus in La Ronge with a satellite clinic operating on the west side of the province to support students in Buffalo Narrows and La Loche. Creighton students will receive information on how to access dental care services in their area.

All regions served by Northlands College will have opportunities for oral care.

The Northlands College dental therapy lab was launched in September 2023, and it includes the latest in X-ray and dental examination technology, enabling students and staff to offer a comprehensive range of services such as fillings, checkups and more.

There are currently 12 students in the Bachelor of Science in Dental Therapy Program with seven in Year One and five in Year Two.

Students and their families may also book appointments for specific concerns or urgent issues, where the problem will be diagnosed and they will provided treatment during the same visit whenever possible. Follow-up appointments will be based on individual treatment needs and may include cleanings, fillings, or tooth extractions.
