Lanigan School hosts grand opening

A huge milestone for the Town of Lanigan.

The grand opening of the new Lanigan School was held today.

Representatives from the provincial government and Horizon School Division were on hand to celebrate the event, along with students and local community leaders.

The Government of Saskatchewan invested $28.26 million in the new facility, while the Horizon School Division chipped in with $590,000 from their capital reserves and community investment for school enhancements.

“This new school is another example of how the Government of Saskatchewan is committed to putting students first,” Education Minister Everett Hindley said. “This project’s design and use of space creates a welcoming environment where students of every age can learn and grow with their community.”

SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister David Marit said the K to 12 facility supports students in a functional and inclusive setting.

“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in educational infrastructure that empowers learners and strengthens growing communities across Saskatchewan.”

The previous elementary and high schools were consolidated into one building that is designed to hold up to 450 Pre-K to Grade 12 students. Both previous facilities were nearing the end of their lifespan, and a provincial news release said they were unable to accommodate the growth of the community.

“Lanigan School is at the heart of the town and surrounding community – a place where families, staff and education partners work together to build a bright future for students,” Board of Education Horizon School Division Chair Garth Anderson said. He added that the division is grateful to the provincial government for investing in education and is also thankful to everyone else who made the project a reality.
