A traffic stop near Witchekan Lake, which netted police over 50 grams of suspected cocaine, and drug trafficking paraphernalia, was initiated after an officer noticed a passenger in the vehicle was not wearing their seatbelt.

That’s according to information provided by Meadow Lake Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) which had determined through its investigation the illegal drugs that were seized on Nov. 1, were destined for the Witchekan Lake area.

Meadow Lake RCMP assisted the CTSS police officer at the scene.

In addition to the drugs, police also seized three cellphones and one metal baton.

Three people, two from Witchekan Lake and the other from McCreary, MB. were subsequently arrested.

John Duchak, the man from Manitoba, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Jason Sawitsky is alleged to have possessed a weapon while prohibited from doing so, and is also accused of identification fraud and obstructing a police officer.

Sharleen Scott was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

They are all scheduled to appear in court in Meadow Lake, on January 5, 2026.
