The Town of Tisdale has elected former council member Mike Hill as their new mayor.

Hill won the town’s by-election on Wednesday, in which he and fellow councillor Dean Janzen were the only two candidates.

Hill received 372 of the 702 votes (53%), beating out Janzen (330 and 47%) by just 42 votes.

“The Town of Tisdale is pleased to announce that Mike Hill has been elected as Mayor. Mayor-Elect Hill has served the community for many years as a dedicated member of Council, demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to the growth and well-being of Tisdale. We look forward to his continued service in this new role,” read a town Facebook post Thursday morning.

“We also extend our sincere appreciation to Councillor Dean Janzen for a well-run and respectful mayoral race and for his ongoing dedication to the community. Councillor Janzen will continue to serve as councillor until the end of his current term.”

Hill is replacing former mayor Roy Skoglund, who resigned as mayor back in August.

Prior to Skoglund’s short term and resignation, Al Jellicoe was Tisdale’s long-time mayor; however, he decided not to run in last fall’s election.

NortheastNOW reached out to Hill for comment regarding the new position, but was unable to get in contact before publication.

“The Town would like to thank the 702 residents who participated in the 2025 By-Election. Your engagement and participation in local governance help shape the future of our community,” added the Tisdale Facebook post. “Together, we continue to make Tisdale a great place to live, work, and grow.”
