Officer charged following SIRT investigation into Maidstone-area death

Nov 14, 2025 | 11:54 AM

An officer from the Maidstone RCMP detachment has been charged with breach of trust following an investigation by the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).

The officer, identified by RCMP as Const. Kalen Henderson, will make his first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on December 11. He has now been suspended from duty.

SIRT’s report into the incident shows that the Maidstone detachment was first called by a person concerned about their relative’s health on April 3, 2024, at about 7:14 am.

They received information that a 68-year-old man was deceased at a home in the R.M. of Britannia.

The caller asked for a welfare check, and an on-duty member was given the task. At about 4:30 pm on the same day, the relative called again and reported that the victim was seriously injured but alive and still wanted a welfare check done.

The officer left the detachment at 4:39 and, at 5:01 pm, got a call from a second relative who said they had gone to the residence and found the man injured by alive.

RCMP and EMS arrived at the scene, and the man was taken to hospital but later died.

The report concludes with the determination that there were grounds for charges, and the RCMP officer was charged.

Saskatchewan RCMP said that Henderson was placed on administrative duties starting on April 5, 2024, which included not responding to further police calls for service.

He was suspended with pay effective yesterday, November 13 and there is a related, ongoing code of conduct investigation by the RCMP.

Henderson was previously the subject of an investigation – along with two other officers – by the Public Complaints Commission after Amanda Michayluk died of hypothermia near Maidstone.

The investigation focused on the fact that search and rescue were not called to help search for the missing 34-year-old woman in January, 2019.
