The Nipawin Hawks enjoyed a dominant performance in their second meeting with the Warman Wolverines as they powered to a 10-1 victory on Saturday night at Centennial Arena in Nipawin.

The Wolverines went into their only game of the weekend having split a pair of two-game series against the Weyburn Red Wings and the Flin Flon Bombers. The Hawks started things off in the opening 20 minutes of play when Mason Karakochuk fired in his sixth goal and first power play marker of the season to make it 1-0. Noah Heinrich and Eric Hoiness each added to the Nipawin lead by the end of the first period.

The second period came and the Hawks kept flying when Noah Derouin put one home and Hoiness said twice is nice with his second of the game to extend the Nipawin lead before Finley Radloff scored to push it further at 6-0.

Cam Sarna ended the Gage Roberts shutout bid with his sixth goal of the season but the Wolverines still trailed 6-1 after two periods of play.

The Hawks continued to pour it on in the third when Derouin netted his second of the night and Carter Anderson scored his fourth to make it 8-1. Clayton Nesbitt and Jaxen Smyth capped off the goal bonanza, putting pucks into the back of the net to push Nipawin’s tally to double digits. The ten goals are the most the Wolverines have allowed in a game in their brief history.

Roberts stood tall for the Hawks as he denied 34 of 35 shots faced to pick up the win and Griffin Wright stopped eight of 14 shots before being replaced by Steven Wawyrk in the second period.

Warman has lost back-to-back games and is now 0-2 against Nipawin this season. The Wolverines remain in fourth place in the Nutrien Division at 6-15-2 along and sit 11th overall in the SJHL, while the Hawks occupy second place in the UPL Division and fourth overall at 13-6-1.

The Wolverines are back at it on Wednesday when they face the Melville Millionaires for the second time this season with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex. Every Wolverines home and away game can be heard for free on SaskNow.com.
