James Smith Cree Nation has purchased almost 10 acres of land in Prince Albert between the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and The Yard access on Marquis Road.

The Office of the Chief announced on November 24 that they had bought what it calls ‘prime commercial land’ through its company, JSCN 100 Developments Ltd.

“It aligns directly with our Nation Rebuilding strategy: building self reliance through smart investments that will generate revenue, create jobs, and support essential programs and services for our people,” said the Nation in their announcement.

“This is more than a standard purchase. It is a proactive investment in our sovereignty, our economic strength, and our future generations.”

No information was shared about what the land will be used for, although it is zoned mixed-use according to the realtor’s sign on the lot.

James Smith said it will begin a community engagement process to get input from its members on the next steps for development.
