The Town of Tisdale has a new mayor.

Mike Hill officially took his Oath of Office at Monday night’s council meeting.

The ceremony was administered by Town Solicitor Jessica McKee Howes, as Hill was joined in council chambers by his family.

“This occasion represents not only a new chapter for Mayor Hill, but also a renewed commitment to leadership, collaboration, and community growth for the Town of Tisdale,” the Town posted in a news release.

“Please join us in congratulating Mayor Mike Hill as he begins his term. We wish him every success as he leads our community forward.”

Hill won a mayoral byelection Nov. 12 with 53 per cent of the vote, while councillor Dean Janzen received 47 per cent. Janzen will stay on as a town councillor.

The new mayor spent nine years as a councillor prior to his election, and told northeastNOW’s Ben Tompkins he’s excited to start a new chapter as mayor.

“I’m just really looking forward to serving the community of Tisdale and continuing the working projects that we have underway. I think with my years of experience on council, when the opportunity came up, I saw it as a good fit because I’m familiar with a lot of the relationships that we have,” Hill said.

The byelection was made necessary after the resignation of Roy Skoglund in August. He was elected mayor in last fall’s municipal election.
