A man who had held over a dozen world championships, and earned the nickname of the “the belt collector” is looking forward to meeting wrestling fans in Saskatchewan.

Austin Aries is part of Canadian Wrestling’s Elite (CWE) Rumble to Remember tour which includes stops in Prince Albert Friday night and Saskatoon on Saturday night. Having performed at events where there are thousands of people in attendance and viewed by million more through pay-per-view, Aries said he also enjoys performing for the smaller crowds that are part of the independent scene.

“It’s nice to be able to actually have conversations with people, hear their stories. You don’t always get that in the big shows,” he said.

Aries may be best known for his time with TNA Wrestling where he is a three-time world champion and six-time X division champion. While working for Ring of Honor, Aries was the first multi-time ROH World Champion after defeating Samoa Joe. He also worked for WWE from 2016 to 2017 and chased the NXT championship. When asked about a favourite championship, Aries said they are all special in different ways.

“I think the first Ring of Honor championship was special because it really gave me an opportunity to cement my name at the time as one of the top guys,” he said, adding his first TNA title in 2010 when he defeated Bobby Roode was very similar.

After a number of ups and downs with the company, Aries said he felt validated.

“Anytime a company puts their faith in you, puts you in a position to lead the company and be the face of it, you take a sense of pride in that knowing you’re doing something right,” he said.

Among some of the other well known names Aries has shared the wrestling ring with include CM Punk, Christopher Daniels, Bryan Danielson, Seth Rollins, James Storm and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Aries, whose actual name is Daniel Solwold Jr., said the name that is well known to his fans came to him him prior to his first match. His zodiac sign is Aries and Austin comes from a wrestler he admired named Austin Idol.

“At the time I didn’t know how this wrestling thing worked and I thought maybe the name would change in a month or two and I never thought 25 years later I would have the same name,” he said.

Friday’s scheduled event at the Prince Albert Grand Council Urban Services Centre includes an Over the Top Rope Rumble where wresters can only be eliminated by being tossed over the top rope and onto the floor. Aries also has a match earlier in the night against vs. fan favourite “The Crazy MoFo” CAM!!ikaze.

“I’m gonna make sure I give fans their money’s worth, I’m going to give them something different and I’m going to make sure we all have a good time,” he said.

Other matches on Friday’s card include:

CWE Champion “Chizzled” Chad Daniels vs. “The Canadian Crusher” AJ Sanchez

“Crude Oil” Cody Mac and The Canadian Goose vs. “Hotshot” Danny Duggan and Ronnie Attitude

CWE 123Approved.ca Hardcore Champion “The Pissed Off Pitbull” Robby Royce vs. Independent Wrestling Legend “Tornado” Tony Kozina.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are still available.

Following the Prince Albert and Saskatoon shows, CWE will be at Cote First Nation on Nov. 30 and then Yorkton on Dec. 1.
