Bull elk shot, left to waste near Plunkett

Nov 28, 2025 | 5:00 PM

Conservation officers near Humboldt are looking for information on who shot a bull elk and left the meat to waste.

A tip came in on November 23 through the Turn in Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) hotline. Officers found the bull six miles south and two miles west of Plunkett.

There was no open season on bull elk at the time. Officers believe that the shooter was hunting antlerless elk at the time. None of the meat was taken from the elk.

The public’s help is needed to solve the case.

COs are asking that the person who may have shot the elk accidentally call them or anyone who might have information to call the TIPP line at 1-800-667-7561.

Calls are not traced or recorded and callers can choose to remain anonymous.

Anyone who provides information leading to the arrest or conviction of the individual(s) responsible may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2000.
