Prince Albert police confirm death of 16-year-old girl was a homicide

The Prince Albert Police Service has confirmed the fatal shooting death last week of a 16-year-old girl, represents the city’s fifth homicide of 2025.

A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody.

He has since been been charged with breaching conditions; however on Monday police stated no charges have been laid in relation to the homicide at this time.

The boy who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared Friday morning at provincial court and was remanded to Dec. 10.

The shooting happened in the morning hours of Nov. 27. Police were called to a home in the 900 block of 12th Street West.

On Saturday, a candlelight vigil was held at the home where Rhianna Neilia Cook lost her life.

Family members told paNOW she had many friends and a lot going for her before her life was cut short.

Major Crimes Investigators are continuing to investigate in relation to this homicide and anyone with information that may assist is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

paNOW also confirmed Cook’s older sister had passed away days prior under non-suspicious circumstances.
