Raiders look for redemption in Medicine Hat to start Alberta road swing

After suffering just their second regulation loss of the season on Saturday in heart-breaking fashion, the Prince Albert Raiders start a four games in five nights stretch as they look to pay back the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The two teams played each other last Saturday in Prince Albert, and the game was tied at two late in the third period before a Raiders clearing attempt went off a skate, bounced into the air, and landed on the shoulder of the Raiders goaltender and into the back of the net to give the Tigers the 3-2 win.

Before the loss to the Tigers, the Raiders had points in six straight games with two straight wins over the Brandon Wheat Kings 2-1 and 4-1, a 4-3 overtime loss to the Wenatchee Wild, and then three straight wins as part of the U.S. road trip.

As for the Tigers, they are coming into Wednesday’s action on a four game win streak and an eight game point streak. Along with the win over the Raiders, the Tigers have earned a 9-3 win over Saskatoon, 3-2 and 7-6 wins over Calgary, and their last loss coming at the hands of the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in overtime.

In the standings, the Raiders are sitting second in the Eastern Conference, sitting six points behind the Edmonton Oil Kings but with five games in hand. The Tigers are sitting third in the Eastern Conference, just one point back of the Raiders.

The Raiders powerplay went 1/4 on the powerplay on Saturday, on the season they sit 17th in the league at 21.2% so far this year, while their penalty kill went 1/2 and currently sits at 80% for fifth in the league.

As for the Tigers, their powerplay moved up a spot to 12th in the league at 23.8%. As for their penalty kill, they sit at 79.1% which drops them down a spot to ninth in the league.

Aiden Oiring has retaken the top spot in Raiders scoring with 9G-15A-24P on the season. Behind him is Brayden Dube with 9G-14A-23P, and Riley Boychuk in third with 4G-18A-22P.

Only two players have points in the last two games for the Raiders. Those players are Jonah Sivertson with a goal in each game, and Ty Meunier with an assist in both.

Leading the Tigers in scoring is Markus Ruck with 6G-24A-30G on the year. Jonas Woo sits second now with 14G-14A-28P, tied with Bryce Pickford at 13G-15A-28P.

Finally on to goaltending, the Raiders will have the tandem of Michal Orsulak and Dimitri Fortin. Orsulak lost to Medicine Hat on Saturday. He’ll be looking for revenge with a top five save percentage in the league at 0.919, the top goals against average at 1.99, and a record of 9-1-3 on the year. Fortin is coming off two of his best games as a Raider, on the season he has a 0.898 save percentage, 2.76 goals against average, and a record of 7-1-1.

As the Tigers, Jordan Switzer picked up the win over the Raiders on Saturday. He sits with a record of 9-3-3 along with an 0.884 save percentage. Casey Carter on the other hand has a 7-3-2 record with a 0.896 save percentage and one shutout on the year.
