The Battlefords North Stars have announced that hometown prospect Grady Hodgins has committed to the team for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Hodgins currently plays for the first place Regina Pat Canadians of the SMAAAHL. The 2008 born forward is scoring on a pace above a point-per-game with 28 points (16g, 12a) in 25 games.

Hodgins is a legacy for the North Stars. His father and AAA coach, Ryan was born in North Battleford and played for the team from 1995-98. “It feels kind of a bonus being in my hometown. My family, my wife’s family is all there…I think it’s pretty special,” said Ryan.

Grady is excited for the opportunity to play in a community where he has a lot of family. “It feels really good. I go to Battleford every year for Christmas and Thanksgiving, and I see the building where the Stars play. I’ve been there on and off my whole life visiting Battleford and I like the place, and I love being in front of all my family.”

North Stars head coach Connor Logan spoke about Hodgins committing to the organization for next season.

“Grady’s a fantastic kid. [He] made an awesome impression on us as staff at our training camp. [We] just saw so much in his game at that camp.”

Like Grady made a positive impression on the coaching staff at the teams training camp, Logan’s coaching also made a good impression on Grady.

“My first interaction was spring camp when we were in Martensville, and they were very organized and very on point…I was very impressed with his accountability with the players and how he ran his practices,” said Grady. “He checked in every now and again asking how it’s going and how I feel with my game and every time it’s been really good. I like how he’s keeping in touch and making me feel wanted, which is awesome.”

Logan also talked about what he saw from Grady as a player. “He’s a real cerebral player. He can make plays, not afraid of the dirty areas. He’s not the biggest guy, but it’s not a limiting factor in his game. He’s able to get to his game, play his game and he showed really well in the exhibition game that he played. He just took all the things that we talked about with him, and he took it straight to his team there in Regina.”

Grady made it clear that he wants to be with the organization because of who his is as a player, and not because hie family has history with the team. “I really want to make sure I earn my spot [with the North Stars], make sure it’s not something that’s given.”

The newest North Stars commit will continue this season with the Regina Pat Canadians before looking to earn his way onto the North Stars roster for the 2026-27 campaign.
