Prince Albert Police report record number of gun seizures

Dec 11, 2025 | 5:11 PM

Based on data collected to the end of November, the Prince Albert Police Service is reporting a record number of firearms seizures in 2025.

Approximately 192 firearms were seized in the community.

Fifty-one came from vehicles, and 48 were seized from residences. Another 36 were seized from persons, and 29 were turned in, meaning they were recovered.

After November’s Board of Police Commissioners’ meeting, Police Chief Patrick Nogier was asked by paNOW about the guns being seized. He confirmed these guns are not being used for recreation.

“Whether it’s used in the commission of an offence or whether it’s something more serious in taking another life,” he said.

Nogier explained the police service’s gun strategy has been very specific over the last year and a half, adding they work closely with the province’s new ballistics lab.

“We want to be one of the first agencies that has a unique working relationship to make sure we are identifying efficiencies so when a crime gun or a crime casing is taken off the street, we have the best opportunity to hold somebody accountable.”

Going forward, Nogier also promised more robust policies relating to how a gun or casing is taken off the street, where they are sent for analysis, and where they are stored.

“All those things require policy updates, and unless we have a system that allows us to be really efficient in identifying them, our officers will always be fumbling because they don’t have something to go to in their day-to-day activities.”

In early January, after a series of incidents over a span of 12 hours, Prince Albert Police officers removed four guns from the possession of people who weren’t supposed to have them.

After a failed traffic stop in September, police followed the suspect to a home in the 500 Block of 27th Street East. After arresting them, the officers found two guns and other items associated with drug trafficking.

In November, a gun was found during a search of a home on Johnson Cres. Police were there to investigate a cocaine trafficking operation.
