Pattison Media radio host wins 2025 SCMA On-Air Personality of the Year

In the early years of his career, winning an award for being a radio personality never crossed Matt Ryan’s mind.

He grew up in the Prairies with a love for music; it was inevitable that he would eventually end up on the mic between songs. This year, Ryan earned his sixth Saskatchewan Country Music Award (SCMA) for On-Air Personality of the Year, marking another milestone in his 17 years on the airwaves.

“It’s tough to put into words how much I appreciate not only being nominated, but to be lucky enough to be chosen among my peers to win this is something I never take for granted.”

“There’s so much talent, in country music in Saskatchewan, and I’ve met some amazing people throughout my time being a part of the SCMAs,” said Ryan.

He isn’t only a voice between songs; Ryan has spent his career making lifelong connections with artists across the province, especially through the Saskatchewan Country Close Up. During this time, he meets with local artists, gets to know them and helps to promote their music.

“For me, just adding a slight input into helping the growth of country music is a reward among itself,” he said.

Out of everything that happened this year, the growth of the Country Close Up thrilled him most.

“The more Saskatchewan artists that I continue to talk with, the more the word gets out and the more people I get to meet,” Ryan said.

Ryan enjoys connecting with the community, embracing the music, and staying in his home province, yet one part of his job stands out above all the rest.

“It can be different every single day. New challenges, new unique opportunities, new people to talk to, new people to meet,” he said.

Over the next few years of his career, Ryan hopes to help grow music within the province and build a community, one where new voices are encouraged, and local talent is celebrated.
