A man charged with second-degree murder in 2024 has had his trial date set.

Kevin Swanson will return to court for a pre-trial conference at Court of King’s Bench in Melfort Jan. 12.

His trial is slated to take place Oct. 19-27, 2026.

Swanson was charged after a serious assault at a home on Third Ave. N. in Naicam in May of 2024.

Dennis Swanson, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say the two men were related.

Meanwhile, two other cases will return to court for pre-trial conferences Jan 12.

Cody Chubey is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his long-time partner Danielle Dobersheck in Melfort in March of 2024, while Steven Bondy faces multiple weapons and other charges stemming from a Saskatchewan RCMP Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team (CRT) investigation in early 2024 in the Hudson Bay area.
