Depth delivers as Wolverines defeat Terriers in return to action

Jan 4, 2026 | 12:30 AM

The Warman Wolverines started the new year the same way they ended the old one, skating away with a 7-4 win over the Yorkton Terriers on Saturday night at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex.

In their first action since a 3-2 victory in Humboldt prior to the Christmas break, the Wolverines matched a season-high in scoring boosted by some key contributions from further down their lineup. Warman’s third and fourth forward lines combined for four goals and ten points led by recent acquisition Nate Crashley, who netted his first two SJHL goals.

Playing in his fourth game since joining the Wolverines after starting the season with the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Crashley wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 18 seconds into the game. The Terriers answered back midway through the opening period with Gabriel Courchesne’s 15th goal of the season and the score remained tied at one through 20 evenly played minutes.

The visitors jumped in front early in the second as Aidan Vallance converted a centering feed from Cash Lanigan but the lead lasted less than five minutes as Owen Parks tallied his fourth of the season to draw the Wolverines level. That was the first of three straight Warman goals with Crashley burying his second of the game right at the ten-minute mark and Oliver Nottingham scoring his fourth of the year a few minutes later to put the home side in front 4-2 after two.

Yorkton responded with another early goal to start the third as Vinay Junek scored just 49 seconds into the frame but once again Warman had an answer with Carter Bergen netting his eighth of the season at 5:26 to restore the two-goal advantage. The Terriers would not go quietly, trimming the deficit back to one on an Owen Roberts marker, but that’s as close as they would get. Kayden Yeaman’s third goal of the season made it 6-4 Warman with less than five minutes to play before Riley Rich-Holden salted away the victory, putting his 11th of the year into an empty net in the closing seconds.

In a game that featured only five minor penalties, the Wolverines were scoreless on two power play opportunities while the Terriers failed to convert on their lone man advantage. Warman outshot Yorkton 39-36 on the night, with Griffin Wright making 32 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. Callum Creig also stopped 32 shots in defeat.

The victory marks the third time in their inaugural season that the Wolverines have won back-to-back games. Warman’s record sits at 9-21-2 while the Terriers are now 17-11-2 after having their four-game winning streak snapped. The Wolverines will take aim at their first ever three-game win streak on Sunday when they host the Humboldt Broncos, with puck drop scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
