One man has been charged and another remains at large after a firearm was discharged inside a residence on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man (MGBHLM) First Nation on Monday.

Battlefords RCMP were called to a home on the First Nation at about 1:30 a.m. Jan. 12 following a report of an armed individual.

Police said two men assaulted another individual at the residence, causing non-life-threatening injuries. One of the men is then accused of threatening occupants with a firearm and discharging it inside the home. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.

With assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Police Dog Services, officers located and arrested one suspect nearby.

As a result of the investigation, Byron Wahobin, 34, of MGBHLM, has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, two counts of pointing a firearm, uttering threats, assault, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, four counts of weapons or firearms possession contrary to an order, possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition.

Wahobin appeared in North Battleford provincial court on Jan. 13.

Police have also charged Lonnie Moosomin, 35, with one count of assault. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and he remains at large.

Police said he should not be approached. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police at 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
