Former RCMP office manager elected in North Battleford 2026 byelection

UPDATE: Official results from the City of North Battleford confirm Gail Feser has won the municipal byelection, with final vote totals showing a slight change from the unofficial count released Wednesday night.

According to the official declaration released Thursday morning, Feser received 174 votes, up from 169 in the unofficial results. Alan Wiese finished second with 147 votes, followed by Mercy George with 142. Dan Suberlak received 83 votes, while Donald Meriam finished with 42.

The updated results do not change the outcome of the race. A total of 591 voters cast ballots in the 2026 byelection.

Gail Feser has been elected to North Battleford city council following a municipal byelection held to fill a vacant seat.

She spent 30 years working with the RCMP, retiring as office manager at the Battlefords detachment.

Unofficial results released Wednesday show Feser received 169 votes, finishing ahead of four other candidates after a manual count conducted by the city’s returning officer.

Alan Wiese placed second with 146 votes, followed by Mercy George with 136. Daniel Suberlak received 80 votes, while Donald Meriam finished with 39.

Mayor Kelli Hawtin welcomed Feser to council, saying she will serve alongside current members until the next municipal election in the fall of 2028.

“On behalf of City Council, we extend our congratulations to the new councillor-elect, Gail Feser, and express gratitude to all who campaigned and ran in this by-election,” Hawtin said in a statement. She added she looks forward to formally welcoming Feser at the next council meeting on Feb. 9.

The results remain unofficial until certified by the returning officer. Official byelection results are expected to be posted at city hall and on the city’s website on Thursday.
