Mustangs set for important battle against Millionaires

Jan 21, 2026 | 6:39 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will play one of their most important games of the season on Wednesday, when they play host to the Melville Millionaires.

Melfort is currently seven points behind Melville for the eighth and final playoff spot, as they try to climb their way back into the hunt.

“We’re at this point in the season where every point matters, so every game is a big game. Regardless of who we’re playing, we’re coming with the same attitude and mental standpoint, and hopefully, coming away with two points,” explained Mustangs’ defenceman Carter Bilous.

“We gotta play hard, get pucks in deep, stick to our systems, be tough in the D zone, and put the puck in the net.”

The Stangs are currently in the midst of one of their better stretches of the season, as they enter this evening’s contest on a three-game winning streak.

This includes a home win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves and a weekend southern sweep against the Estevan Bruins and Weyburn Red Wings.

“I think the boys are buying in right now, and we’re having fun again. We’re believing in ourselves, believing in the systems, showing up to work every day, putting in the work, and I think it’s paying off for us now, so it’s good to see,” Bilous added.

“The culture here is set, there’s no such thing as mailing it in around here, it’s a winning program and winning organization, that starts from the coach down. That’s the message here every day, so that’s why there’s no going down without a fight.”

Puck drop from the Northern Lights Palace is set for 7:30 p.m.
