After their most dominant win of the season on Tuesday, the Prince Albert Raiders started a three games in three nights weekend on the road Thursday night against the Moose Jaw Warriors. After a second period comeback from the Warriors, the Raiders were forced into their first shootout of the season where they picked up a 3-2 win.

On the first powerplay of the game just 2:36 in, the Raiders got their first goal. After being sent chasing the puck into their own zone, Brandon Gorzynski sent the puck ahead to the right side of the blueline where Max Heise was waiting. Heise stepped over the line and returned the puck to Gorzynski on a 2-on-1 with Braeden Cootes, and Gorzynski quickly found Cootes at the back door for Cootes’ 13th of the year.

Then at the 10:11 mark, it was Gorzynski’s turn to finish the play. Owen Corkish picked up an assist for getting the puck out to centre for Aiden Oiring, and Oiring drove hard down the right side and made a move that looked like he was going to cut to the middle, but instead he went around behind the net for a wraparound attempt. Oiring’s shot was stopped, but Brandon Gorzynski was streaking in and potted the rebound for his 20th of the year.

Before the end of the period, Matyas Man got tied up in the corner with Gage Nagel, and the two players shed the gloves as they came out of the corner. The 19-year-old Man standing at 6’6, the soon to be 19-year-old Nagel at 6’1, both guys threw bombs at each other until they wrestled each other to the ground. Man was given an extra 10 minute misconduct, meaning the Raiders would start the period with five defencemen.

Shortly after Man exited the box, Linden Burrett went down in the corner awkwardly and had to be helped off the ice favouring his left leg. He never returned to the game.

At the 12:07 mark of the second, the Warriors cut into the lead with a powerplay goal of their own. From the left point, Pavel McKenzie sent a pass to Ethan Semeniuk at the left side of the goal, and he spun away from a defender before lifting a backhand into the net.

Then at 17:55, the Warriors tied it. 16-year-old defenceman Colt Carter ripped down the right side on the rush, and he fired a wrist shot that beat Orsulak short side to tie the game.

The third period saw some back and forth action between the two teams, and the Warriors were able to get a couple chances on the rush, but Orsulak made some great saves to keep the game tied. At the other end, the Raiders tested Warriors goaltender Chase Wutzke a few times on a couple passes in tight for tips, but he closed the door.

After 3: Raiders 2 – 2 Warriors, shots 11-11, 37-21 Raiders

In to overtime, and Michal Orsulak was the star of the show for the Raiders with two big saves on breakaways during the overtime period. The Raiders put up one shot in overtime on a great play to Aiden Oiring, but this one needed a shootout for the first time this season.

The Warriors shot first, and Orsulak stopped Landen McFadden. Aiden Oiring was the first shooter for the Raiders, and he scored to give the Raiders the advantage. Orsulak stopped the next two shooters for the Warriors, and that gave the Raiders the win.
