Mustangs look to continue point streak in Battlefords

Jan 27, 2026 | 5:36 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are on the road once more as they visit the Battlefords North Stars on Tuesday.

Melfort enters the contest on a five-game point streak, as they’ve collected their last nine of a possible 10 points.

The Mustangs will play a North Stars team, however, who are also on a point streak… one that’s more than twice as long as their own.

Battlefords will begin tonight on an 11-game point streak, with just a single overtime loss in that span.

What may be in the Stangs’ favour is that they have been successful against the Stars this year, winning two out of the three previous match-ups.

Unfortunately, it was the last one that didn’t go well for the Blue and Green, as they were dropped 6-1 in their own barn, back on Jan. 10, by this same North Battleford team.

Ironically enough, that particular meeting was the last time Melfort did not earn a point.

So, which version of the Mustangs will show up this evening is likely to tell the story.

It could be the early-season one who had the weekend sweep of the North Stars, with the current five-game point streak version also very acceptable, or the one who found themselves in a five-game slide, not playing a very competitive game.

The hope is that it’s the former over the latter, as this Stangs team continues to fight for a playoff push, with Tuesday night possibly being more steps in the right direction.
