Red hot Raiders head to Moose Jaw for one off with Warriors

Last week was a big one for the Prince Albert Raiders, winning four games in five nights capped off by a win on home ice over the Medicine Hat Tigers to take a decisive lead at the top of the Eastern Conference. After two days off, the Raiders start a lighter schedule this week on Tuesday when they head to Moose Jaw to take on the Warriors.

This is the third time the Raiders will meet the Warriors. The Raiders are 2-0 against the Warriors with the first meeting back on Nov. 1 when the Raiders won 6-4, and then just last Thursday on Jan. 22 where the Raiders won in Moose Jaw 3-2 in a shootout.

The Raiders come into the game as the top team in the East Division by a whopping 21 points, leading the Eastern Conference by four, and are one point back of first in the WHL. On the season, the Raiders record sits at 35-6-4 (Wins-Losses-Overtime Losses).

On a seven-game win streak, the Raiders most recently beat Medicine Hat 5-2 on Saturday, Swift Current 6-1 on Friday, and that earlier mentioned matchup with Moose Jaw 3-2 on Thursday.

As for Moose Jaw, the Warriors are still in the seventh playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 17-23-5 on the year. They sit a full 13 points behind Saskatoon.

The Warriors have been off since Friday where they lost 3-2 to visiting Victoria. Then came the Thursday shootout loss to the Raiders 3-2, but then two wins in overtime 5-4 over Spokane and 3-2 over Seattle to finish the U.S. road swing.

On special teams, the Raiders powerplay has dropped to fourth in the league at 30.2 per cent. The penalty kill has held its spot at 11th in the league at 78.2 per cent.

The Warriors special teams sees their powerplay also sits right in the middle of the league at 11th, good for 25 per cent. As for their penalty kill, it sits 19th in the league at 70.9 per cent.

Now for the scoring leaders, the Raiders are lead by both Daxon Rudolph and Aiden Oiring tied with identical statlines of 21G-33A-54P. Brandon Gorzynski has third place with at 22G-29A-51P, and Max Heise has climbed up to fourth with 24G-22A-46P, tied with Riley Boychuk at 10G-36A-46P.

As for the Warriors, Pavel McKenzie leads the way with 12G-33A-45P. Behind him is Landen McFadden at 18G-26A-44P. Aiden Ziprick has the third spot with 13G-27A-40P and sitting fourth is Ethan Semeniuk with 11G-23A-34P.

In goal, the Raiders Michal Orsulak is coming off of one of his best performances of the year to improve his record to 15-4-3 on the year, and his save percentage is back up to 0.902, along with a 2.43 goals against average, and two shutouts this year.

Steele Bass also improved his numbers over the weekend, keeping his record perfect at 7-0-0 record, a 0.928 save percentage, 1.43 goals against average, and one shutout this year.

As for the Warriors goaltenders, Chase Wutzke was fantastic during the Thursday shootout between these two teams. Wutzke comes in with a record of 10-14-2 on the year, a 0.904 save percentage, 3.21 goals against average, and one shutout on the year.

Behind him is American 18-year-old Kyle Jones with a 5-10-3 record, a 0.869 save percentage, and a 4.61 goals against average.

The Raiders and Warriors battle on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
