Broncos sweep Wolverines with second straight overtime win

Feb 1, 2026 | 12:41 AM

Kai Holowachuk ended it in overtime as the Humboldt Broncos recorded an instant replay of the previous night with a 5-4 win over the Warman Wolverines to take the second game of a home-and-home series on Saturday in Warman.

Owen Chapman started things off in the opening frame when he connected for his fifth goal to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead 8:27 into the hockey game.

The Wolverines went wild that very same period when Trey Markus got on the board and Nate Crashley scored his first goal since January 3rd to give Warman a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Tyce Penrod netted his second in as many games to start the second frame, drawing Humboldt level, but Carter Bergen responded with his 13th goal to put Warman back in front 3-2 after two periods.

The Broncos opened the final twenty minutes with Rylan Hue tying the score again before Brayden Skogstad to push the visitors back ahead, 4-3.

But the Wolverines weren’t done yet as Kanyan Unger went on his first career goal streak by blasting one past Matthew Bradley for his third of the campaign to even it up at 4-4, sending his hometown team to their 7th overtime game this season.

However the home side would have to settle for a single point when Holowachuk put the puck in the net just over three minutes into the extra session to give the Broncos their third win at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex this season, ending a three-game road losing skid.

Despite the loss, the Wolverines have picked up points in three straight games. They will see the Broncos two more times in March to close the regular season.

Warman remains fourth in the Nutrien Division and 11th overall in the league at 11-26-2-2, 17 points outside of a playoff spot with 15 games left.

The Broncos picked up a crucial four points from the home-and-home series, occupying third in the Nutrien Division and ninth overall at 19-19-1-1.

Next up, the Wolverines will begin back-to-back three-game weeks on Wednesday at home against the Kindersley Klippers, with puck drop at 7:45 p.m. Every Wolverines home and away game can be heard on SaskNow.com.
