Mustangs fall to Ice Wolves for first time this season

Feb 4, 2026 | 1:27 AM

The Melfort Mustangs travelled to La Ronge on Tuesday night to take on the Ice Wolves for the fifth time this season.

Prior to the contest, Melfort was 4 and 0 against La Ronge this year.

They are now no longer unbeaten against their division rivals, however, following a 4-3 defeat.

The Mustangs failed to truly show up for the majority of the first half of the game, as they found themselves down 3-0 midway through the second period.

A late power surge late in the middle frame did see the Stangs score three unanswered to tie it heading into the third.

Unfortunately, it seemed as though they used up all the gas in the tank, as the Blue and Green failed to score one in the final stanza to take their first lead of the game, as an Ice Wolves powerplay marker in the final 20 minutes ultimately decided the contest.

Up next for the Mustangs is likely their most important weekend set of the season.

Melfort will play host to the Kindersley Klippers (the current holder of the eighth and final playoff spot, and seven points ahead of the Stangs) this Friday and Saturday at the Northern Lights Palace.
