RCMP say no new deaths linked to suspected hazardous drink in Battlefords

Mar 6, 2026 | 5:00 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP say there have been no new reports of sudden deaths or illness potentially linked to a previously reported hazardous liquid circulating in the Battlefords area.

Police provided the update Friday afternoon, just one day after they confirmed the possibility of two sudden deaths in the area being linked to an unknown beverage.

“Currently, there is no indication of an increased risk to the public, though Battlefords RCMP continue to remind the public to exercise caution and not consume any unknown beverages or liquid substances,” it stated.

“There is no connection with commercially available beverages.”

A hazardous substance alert was initially issued Tuesday by the RCMP and the Ministry of Health and is scheduled to remain in effect until March 11.

Investigators have not released any description of the suspected beverage or substance, and have not confirmed how the deaths may be connected.

The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, and RCMP say they will provide further updates if additional information becomes available.
