Gage Roberts made 24 saves as the Nipawin Hawks handed the Warman Wolverines a second straight shutout loss with a 5-0 victory on Sunday afternoon in Nipawin.

The Hawks began the scoring late in the first period when Carter Cole put in his fourth of the season, marking the fourth time in as many meetings this season that the Hawks have drawn first blood against the Wolverines.

Will Whitter added to the lead for the Hawks when he fired his 16th of the season past Griffin Wright to make it 2-0 for the home side after 20 minutes of play.

In the second, the Hawks picked off right where they left off when Mason Karakochuk tied Konnor Watson for the team lead in goals with his 22nd, then Jack Janzen fired one home to push the lead to four.

Less than two minutes later, Braeden Jockims extended his goal streak to ten games when he found the back of the net for his 19th of the season. That was more than enough for Nipawin as they would lock things down in a scoreless third period to pick up their second straight win.

It’s a crucial victory for the Hawks as they pursue home ice advantage in the SJHL playoffs, now sitting fourth overall with a 34-18-1-1 record. The Wolverines have dropped three straight contests with two games remaining in the season.

The Wolverines, who will miss the postseason, play the final home game of their inaugural campaign on Friday when they welcome the Humboldt Broncos to the Warman Home Centre Communiplex before closing out their schedule on Saturday in Humboldt.
