Find My Plus One: The Canadian App for Getting Out and Living Your Best Life

Mar 9, 2026 | 11:13 AM

Saskatchewan is packed with things to do, but let’s be honest, sometimes the hardest part isn’t finding the event. It’s finding someone to go with. That’s true whether you’re in Prince Albert, Prince George, or Prince Edward Island.

That problem is exactly what Prince Albert social worker and lifelong community advocate Susan Aitken set out to solve when she created Find My Plus one, a proudly Saskatchewan-built app now launching across Canada, developed right here on the prairies, not in a Silicon Valley boardroom.

“Loneliness is an epidemic,” says Susan, who has spent over 20 years supporting people in Prince Albert and across the province. “Health Canada backs that up. We have this incredible country full of things to do and too many of us are sitting them out because we don’t have anybody to do them with. I wanted to change that.”

Find My Plus one is an activity-first app. You post something you love to do, a hockey game, a hike, a farmers’ market, a live show, and connect with someone who genuinely wants to do that same thing. Real shared interests. Real activities. Real connection.

“This isn’t about swiping through profiles hoping for the best. It’s about posting what you actually love to do and finding the person who loves it too. That’s where real connection starts.”

Aitken said she genuinely believes the app is going to change how Canadians experience the country. (Submitted photo)

Once you find a potential plus one, you get to know them at your own pace and make arrangements to meet when you feel ready. Most of us already know the basics of meeting someone new, but here’s a quick reminder of six simple steps that can make all the difference:

1. Always meet in a public place for the first time.

2. Do your research beforehand. Look them up on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. Don’t take anyone’s word at face value.

3. Tell someone you trust where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and when you expect to be back.

4. Before getting into a vehicle with someone for the first time, ask them to take a selfie with you behind their vehicle, including the license plate and make, and send that photo to your trusted contact.

5. Never get into a vehicle with someone you’ve just met until you have done step four.

6. Trust your gut. If something feels off, it is off.

The app also includes a rating feature so the community can look out for each other. A great experience? Share it. A not-so-great one? Others deserve to know.

“I hope everybody finds their best friend through this app, because life is meant to be shared. Not just in romantic relationships, but in every kind of friendship and connection you can imagine. That was always the heart of it.”

Find My Plus one was built around friendship and shared experience, but it’s designed to be fluid. What you’re looking to bring into your life is entirely your call. Some people may find a hiking buddy. Some may find a concert companion. Some may find something more. The app simply opens the door.

“Other apps do what they do really well, but there was a gap. There was no tool specifically designed to connect people around the things they love to do. Find My Plus one bridges that gap. It’s a tool for connection, plain and simple, and I genuinely believe it’s going to change how Canadians experience this country.”

What makes Find My Plus one stand apart? Your data isn’t sitting in the hands of a multi-billion dollar tech company on the other side of the continent. This was built by a Canadian, in Saskatchewan, for Canadians everywhere, and that matters.
