Man charged with attempted murder after two RCMP officers shot in Melville

Following an incident where two Saskatchewan RCMP officers were shot and transported to hospital with serious injuries, a 55-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Markus Dodge is scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Tuesday.

Late Sunday night, RCMP were called to a residence in Melville for a reported assault. As officers arrived at the scene, a firearm was discharged, and the two officers were struck.

Both were transported to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious in nature. According to Monday’s update from investigators, the injured officers are in stable condition; however, their injuries are “serious and potentially life-altering in nature.”

The armed individual remained in the residence for roughly five hours before exiting and getting arrested.

RCMP stated the initial call was prompted by an altercation that occurred between two individuals. An adult male threatened and assaulted the other individual. The other individual did not report physical injuries to police.

Investigators have since recovered a firearm at the residence.

Richard Goebel, who lives across the street from the home, told CJME News the argument was between neighbours in the front yard about the property line.

In addition to the two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault, Dodge has also been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to injure; pointing a firearm; and unlawful possession of a firearm.

In relation to the initial altercation, he is also charged with uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.
