Foam Lake community grieving for three killed in grid-road crash

Oct 4, 2026 | 9:51 AM

A 40-year-old woman and two young girls from Foam Lake are dead following a three-vehicle crash on a local grid road Friday afternoon, Saskatchewan RCMP said.

People in the small, community-oriented town were grieving the loss on Sunday, with one family putting a pair of stuffed animals and a small bunch of flowers on their front steps as a memorial.

According to a Facebook post, the family of those who died requested it. The post also shared that the three killed were a mother and her daughters.

The tribute isn’t limited to Foam Lake. One commenter on the post in Yorkton said she was placing a pair of Squishmallows outside her door, while another said she’d take part in Moose Jaw.

Police said earlier a third passenger from the SUV, an adult man, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital by STARS air ambulance. His condition was not known on Sunday.

On Saturday, RCMP said they had arrested and charged a 40-year-old man from Sumter, South Carolina.

He faces three counts of dangerous driving causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He remains in custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Yorkton Provincial Court on Oct. 5.

Emergency crews, including local fire departments, paramedics, and STARS air ambulance, were called to the crash scene about nine kilometres west of Foam Lake around 12:35 p.m. on Oct. 2, police said in a news release on Oct. 3.

According to the Wadena/Foam Lake RCMP, the initial investigation shows that a pickup truck collided with an SUV while trying to pass a semi-truck.

The impact killed three people inside the SUV. Paramedics pronounced the driver and two passengers dead at the scene. Mounties have identified the victims as a 40-year-old woman, an eight-year-old girl, and a five-year-old girl. All three lived in Foam Lake.

The crash also sent three people from the pickup truck to the hospital. Police said the driver and one passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while STARS flew a second passenger to hospital with serious injuries.

The semi-truck driver escaped without any injuries, and the semi itself was not damaged.

Local RCMP officers are continuing to investigate the crash with the help of a specialized Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

Up until Sept. 29 RCMP said there have been 69 fatal collisions with 82 associated fatalities on roads in Saskatchewan RCMP jurisdiction this year.
