Saskatchewan farmers inching to the harvest finish line

Oct 22, 2026 | 3:01 PM

The latest Saskatchewan crop report has the fall harvest in the province at 97 per cent complete.

Crops Extension Specialist Davidson Ugheoke said better weather allowed combining to move forward.

Harvest is 99 per cent complete in the southwest and west-central regions, northern regions are at 97 per cent, while the east-central and southeast regions are roughly 95 per cent complete

Ugheoke said there’s only a few types of crops that still need to be harvested.

“We still have about four per cent of canola yet to be harvested. Most of them are the later seeded ones, of course, and then we have 74 per cent of soybeans harvested. Right now, we still have some flax out with 88 per cent harvested and canary seed at 92 per cent,” Ugheoke said.

Every other crop is either 99 to 100 per cent combined across the province.

Even if the crop is in the bin, Ugheoke said the work is not finished as there is still plenty of fall work to complete.

“Producers are basically shifting their attention to other fall- and winter-related preparations,” he said. “Some individuals are applying herbicides and fertilizer, harrowing fields and maybe servicing equipment. They are hauling bales and moving cattle home, and some are marketing their livestock at this time.”

Precipitation was limited across most of Saskatchewan during the reporting period of Oct. 13 to 19, ranging from trace amounts to 12 millimetres (mm) in the Foam Lake region and nine mm in the Arborfield area.

Ugheoke said with the growing season ending, the precipitation resulted in little change to provincial topsoil moisture conditions.
