New program to boost the commercialization of agtech in Saskatchewan

Oct 29, 2026 | 10:20 AM

Saskatchewan is home to some of the world’s most innovative agtech companies.

The Agtech Commercialization Readiness (ACRE) program has been created by Innovation Saskatchewan as a vehicle to help Saskatchewan companies bring ideas to market faster.

ACRE provides up to $30,000 in funding for on-farm pilot projects that connect Saskatchewan agtech companies with producers and industry partners. Companies can test and refine technologies in real-world agricultural environments, gather industry feedback, and build relationships with potential customers.

Participating producers and industry partners gain early access to emerging technologies, helping them evaluate new solutions, address operational challenges, and improve productivity before products enter broader commercial markets.

Saskatchewan Cattle Association Research Chair Christine Strube said cattle producers are the original innovators.

“Producers are increasingly interested in using innovative tools with practical, on-farm applications that can address concerns such as animal identification, environmental sustainability, water quality, animal health, and forage productivity,” Strube said. “The SCA is extremely pleased to see this type of investment in innovation that can be adopted on-farm to improve production efficiency.”

ACRE builds on the Made In Saskatchewan Technology (MIST) program, adapting its pilot-project model to address the needs of Saskatchewan’s agtech sector. MIST helped Saskatchewan startups such as Luxsonic Technologies, SolusGuard and Offstreet advance innovative technologies through pilot projects.

Innovation Saskatchewan CEO Kari Harvey said for many agtech companies, access to real-world testing can make the difference between a promising idea and a commercial success

“ACRE will help more Saskatchewan companies take that next step, while creating opportunities for producers and industry partners to evaluate and adopt innovative solutions,” he said.
