back-to-back losses

Big second period propels Bombers in win over Wolverines

The Flin Flon Bombers made the most of a big second period with three power play goals as the Warman Wolverines suffered their second straight defeat in a 5-2 loss at the Whitney Forum on Friday night.

Neither team found the scoresheet until Ty Wasyluk fired one in the net 13:23 into the opening period to give the home side a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Bombers power play unit exploded in the second period when Jared Miskiw, Rhett Ewen and Gabriel Kaminski each found the back of the net to make it a 4-0 game. Flin Flon outshot Warman 18-0 in the period.

The Wolverines would begin a comeback attempt in the third when Braden Hordichuk erased the Bombers’ shutout bid with his first career SJHL goal on a Warman power play, and Carter Bergen would then contribute to the momentum with his second of the season on another man advantage.

But that’s as close as the visitors would get as Landon Alexander put the game to rest with an empty-net goal to give the Bombers four straight wins.

The Wolverines still sit stop the SJHL standings at 11-4-2 but the Bombers are now just one point behind them in second place at 11-4-1.

The Wolverines will aim for revenge on Saturday with puck drop at the Whitney Forum set for 7:30 p.m. Listen to every Wolverines home and away game live on SaskNow.com.
