P.A. Wildland firefighter shortlisted for calendar

The list of possible men and women appearing in next year’s Saskatchewan Fire Fighters Calendar is close to being finalized, and among those in the running is a provincial Wildland Fire Fighter who calls Prince Albert home.

Cory Krahenbil, 33, works for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, primarily at the Dorintosh firebase. He told paNOW he was intrigued by the calendar.

“I kind of thought about doing it before. I had a few people say I should try out for it so I figured why not,” he said.

Next year will mark the 19th year for the provincial calendar. All the funds raised from calendar sales go directly to helping the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

“I’m a father of two so just having the emergency staff there as well as the equipment they need, I just want to help out any way I can,” he said.

Krahenbil laughed and remained humble when asked how he felt about the possibility of celebrity status, and posing shirtless for thousands of people.

“As long as those funds are going to those that need it the most, that’s the main thing,” he said.

Voting runs until the end of May 8.

Within the pages of the calendar are Professional and Career firefighters as well as Volunteer firefighters.

According to a statement on the calendar’s website, firefighters know first-hand how injured and sick children can change lives.

“Our goal is to do all we can to improve the lives of children and families in need. The individuals that appear in this calendar are real Fire Fighters, everyday heroes who risk their lives to save the lives and properties of total strangers. These Fire Fighters are donating their time to help Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.”
