Eagle Point golf course opens to the public tomorrow

May 16, 2022 | 1:42 PM

The large amount of snow La Ronge received during the winter months delayed the opening of golf course at Eagle Point Resort, but owners are ready to have the public back tomorrow.

“Today the proshop is opening, so if anyone wants to stop by to pick up your membership or have a look around. We have new products in this year and people can buy a membership or a punch card, there are options,” said owner Lolita Poirier. “Tomorrow we will start our summer hours. We will open at 8 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. During the day, we have a lot of tee times and if people can’t get out until the evening, it’s men’s league tomorrow night.”

Poirier explained May 17 is a bit late for the golf course to open, but she noted golf courses down south have just recently begun to open and Eagle Point is always a couple of weeks behind. In 2021, the golf course opened on May 7 and in recent years before that it opened as early as April 28.

“The golf course seems to catch snow, so there is still snow out there even though it looks alright around town,” Poirier said. “There were some cart paths that still had quite a bit of snow on them, but otherwise it is pretty dry considering the amount of snow we had this winter.”

Junior golf will likely begin in early June as there is still a bit of planning to be done. Poirier mentioned she will make a post on Facebook and email former participants when the time comes to register.

There are also a number of job opportunities available in the clubhouse or proshop that are full-time, part-time or casual. Poirier added a couple of positions are open to those who are 19 and older. Anyone interested in apply can do so with a resume in-person or by emailing info@eaglepoint.ca.

Poirier noted local residents are eager for another season of golf.

“I think they are for sure, so we look forward to seeing everyone here this week,” she said.
