Raiders snag Saskatchewan’s leading scorer with first round pick

Last season, forward Luke Moroz went on an absolute rampage through the Saskatchewan U15 AA ranks. The Prince Albert Raiders are hoping he one day does the same in the WHL.

The Raiders selected Moroz with their first pick, 15th overall in the 2022 WHL prospects draft. The pick initially belonged to the Seattle Thunderbirds, but the Raiders acquired that pick, the 60th overall pick, and the 126th overall selection in exchange for the tenth overall choice.

Moroz dominated the U15 AA ranks last year with an incredibly productive offensive season. Despite playing only 27 games with the Prairie Storm, he amassed a whopping 47 goals and 108 points, good enough to lead the entire province in U15 AA scoring.

Raiders director of player personnel, Bruno Zarillo, described him as a high-IQ hockey player who is ahead of the game and sees where the game is going. He also said they were pleased with his skill level.

“He’ll be an elite forward as he ages and matures through our program,” Zarillo said. “He just fits so well with what we drafted in December. He’s local, he’s close to us and we’re very honoured to have him come play for the Prince Albert Raiders.”

Also during this season, Moroz got his feet wet at the U18 AAA level. Playing with the Moose Jaw AAA Warriors, he got into two games and picked up his first assist.

Barring any further trades, the Raiders are scheduled to select again at 32nd overall, their first pick of the second round. More coverage will follow on paNOW.com.
