For the first time ever, a special event to raise funds for Special Olympics is coming to Saskatchewan.

On Tuesday evening, law enforcement members will volunteer with members of Special Olympians as part of “Cops, Pops, and Pizza.”

“This is the first year that we are hosting this event in Saskatchewan,” said Victoria Lacelle with Special Olympics Saskatchewan. “But it’s been going on for years’ in B.C and Alberta with great success. We were really excited for the opportunity to get this started here.”

Six Boston Pizza locations will be participating including the one in Prince Albert on Second Avenue West.

Regina, Saskatoon, and Moose Jaw are the other cities participating.

From 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., officers and Olympians will help serve, wait on tables, and collect donations to help raise funds for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Lacelle said they hope to raise at least $10,000 from this event.

“That $10,000 would go to providing sports programs for people in Saskatchewan with an intellectual disability,” she said, adding she hopes to see a large crowd at the restaurant Tuesday evening.

“There’s going to be some fun stuff going on, a little bit of merchandise for sale as well as some different draws going on for those who make a donation.”

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraiser. Since the first Torch Run in Kansas in 1981, the event has grown to over 75,000 law enforcement officers carrying the Flame of Hope, representing over 95 programs in 30 countries.
