An exciting event ahead for Melfort Multi-K

Get ready to lace up your running shoes, Melfort Multi-K is back up and running.

The event is celebrating its 12th year with exciting course lengths, snacks, medals and a special surprise.

Race director Allison Rogers explained the race was created to bring people together and encourage physical activity.

“Dr. Richard Van Der Ross was a doctor in Melfort years ago who saw a need for a goal for his patients. So that goal turned into a race, walk, whatever it needed to be for his patients to get moving.”

Event organizers aim to keep the courses the same year to year to allow participants the chance to train on the course and improve their time each year.

Castle Northland Building is sponsoring a special run for children 10 and under to encourage them to get active.

“It’s a one-kilometer fun run for the kids. Two-hundred kids participate for free thanks to Castle Northland lumber who has graciously donated to sponsor that event.”

There is a 10k run or a 5k walk for those looking for more of a challenge. Experienced runners can take on the 21.1k run.

As an incentive to train for the course, the top three performers of each gender in all of the course lengths will get a special treat.

“This year is something different than we’ve never done before but we’re kind of keeping that a secret. They also receive free registration for the events the next year and a beautiful bouquet of flowers by Mel-City Floral & Home.”

For those wanting to enjoy the run without the competitive aspect, all runners will receive a snack and a commemorative medal.

Rogers want to remind anyone that is thinking of participating that the only goal for the event, is the one you set for yourself.

“I think the biggest thing is sometimes it’s hard. We call it a race, but we often say run your own race.”

The race takes place on Saturday, Sept. 17 and early registration ends on June 30.
