SJHL Draft Day begins

Jun 10, 2022 | 10:31 AM

It is draft day in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Some of tomorrow’s top junior hockey talent will begin their journey today in the league’s first Bantam Draft since 2020, featuring a couple of unique wrinkles this year.

Held remotely, with teams each present to make their selections from their home communities, the event will also feature multiple age groups over its six rounds. The first four rounds will consist of players born in 2006, followed by an additional two rounds of 2007-born players.

The Weyburn Red Wings hold the first pick in this year’s draft, with the Nipawin Hawks (#2 and #5) and Kindersley Klippers (#3 and #4), alternating selections to round out the top five.

Humboldt also hold two first-round selections (#6 and #11), while Yorkton (#7), Flin Flon (#8), Weyburn’s second pick (#9) Melfort (#10) and the Battlefords (#12) round out the opening round.
