RCMP Report: Firearms seized in multiple investigations

Jul 7, 2022 | 11:00 AM

Battlefords RCMP recently responded to two reports of people wielding firearms, resulting in one arrest.

Shortly after midnight on June 27, a homeowner in Metinota saw a white vehicle by his driveway. After going outside, one of the occupants pulled what appeared to be a .22 calibre rifle and threatened him before fleeing the area.

The following night, the vehicle in question was found and seized in connection to a separate incident with the suspects.

“They both escaped lawful custody by fleeing police but were stopped and arrested,” Sgt. Neil Tremblay said.

During a search of the vehicle, a .22 calibre rifle was seized and a 33-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man and a 17-year-old were arrested. The woman is charged with assaulting a police officer, obstruction, resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody, while the male faces escaping lawful custody and obstruction. They’re scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8, while the matter is still under investigation.

Police also responded to a report of a man with a long gun standing in front of a home on the 1800 block of 102nd St. in North Battleford on Canada Day. The man allegedly fired one round into the air. Police attended and contained the scene, notifying the neighbours, but following no response from the home, they entered and found no one inside.

“Whether the suspect came from that house or not is still under investigation,” Tremblay said.

Items seized in assault investigation

On June 25, police arrested a 34-year-old man at the scene of a reported assault on the 400 block of 33rd St. in Battleford. This was in response to a 911 call saying the accused was assaulting a woman there.

Through additional investigation, police found that the two parties were known to each other and recovered stolen property at the residence that’s connected to previously reported incidents.

“There was also a firearm located that he was not allowed to be in possession of due to a previous conviction,” Tremblay said.

As a result, Tyson Greer was remanded and appeared in court on June 27 on multiple charges. These included possession of a firearm while prohibited, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of stolen property, assault while choking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

According to the RCMP, the victim did not sustain any significant injuries.

Argument escalates

Battlefords RCMP is also investigating a confrontation between two parties in Cochin over the weekend.

Sunday evening, two unknown suspects reportedly had a verbal confrontation with the complainant and his father, while passing near each other out on the water boating in Murray Lake. They then reportedly arrived at the complainant’s home sometime later where a physical confrontation ensued and the suspects were reported to have also made threats.

“We’re not certain exactly what compelled them to go back to the complainant’s residence, but alcohol may have been involved,” Tremblay said.

The suspects allegedly said they were from Saskatoon, one of whom sported that City’s name as a back tattoo, while the other is described as bald, with a beard and chain on. They fled the area in a dark grey Dodge truck with black rims, while the boat they were operating is an older blue, yellowish model with a 25 HP Johnston outboard motor.

“We’re just hoping that based on the descriptions of the vehicle, boat and these people that it might ring a bell with someone as to who they might be,” Tremblay said. “But it doesn’t appear they’re from the area.”

Anyone with information on any incident can contact Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
