New director of community services in Melfort

“I was really attracted to the position, as it was an opportunity for me to take a step up from my last job. It presents a bunch of new challenges and files. I just really enjoyed what I saw in Melfort, both the downtown core as well as the housing and the prairie-farm environment. It all seemed like a really good fit.”

As far as what he hopes to accomplish that was a bit of a difficult question to answer, as he isn’t coming ‘with his own agenda.’

“I’m here to do the work of the city,” he said. “With that being said, however, I am really looking forward to working on some downtown projects. I think that Melfort’s downtown is a fantastic vibrant location.”

But just because he wants to revitalize some things, doesn’t mean he wants to get rid of the history.

According to him, “some prairie towns have failed to do so and he doesn’t want that happening here.”

“There are so many examples out there where prairie towns have lost that vibrancy in the downtown. I think it’s important that we take steps towards preserving, maintaining and protecting that in Melfort.”

While Lok has only been here a short time, he’s already learned about Communities in Bloom, the Exhibition, all the summer activities and their rollout and the effort from both staff and members of the public, all across the community.

And as far as what he wants his new home to know about him, it’s pretty simple and can be described in just two words… reasonable and practical.

“I like looking towards or looking to make reasonable and practical solutions to problems at hand. Same with working with the development community, I think have a real reputation of similar values… I think that’s how you’d describe me… I’m just really happy to be here, it’s such a wonderful community.”
