Humboldt Vintage Days return after long pandemic absence

Aug 26, 2022 | 3:47 PM

This past weekend, Aug. 20 and 21, the Humboldt Vintage Club held their annual vintage days for the first time since 2019.

The club was unable to host its two-day event these past couple of years due to COVID-19.

The festivities featured tractor pulling, concessions, threshing, old cars, rides for the kids, a blacksmith shop, rope making, a petting zoo, an antique house, log sawing, entertainment and more.

Club president, Murray Hergott told northeastNOW they had a solid turnout and that people were excited to participate once again, especially after the long hiatus.

“Everybody was pretty happy to get back at it… It went over very well and it was quite a busy day.”

And with the long pause, it gave the club a long time to prepare for this year’s occasion and make it the best they possibly could.

Although this was an event they have put on many times before, Hergott explained it still doesn’t come on without a lot of effort.

“It is something that we’ve done in the past, as an annual event, but there is a fair bit you have to plan for and it’s an awful lot of work involved in getting set up for, especially when it’s so busy.”

As for the purpose of the days, Hergott added it is to educate the younger generation on the history of the surrounding the area.

“We have an awful lot of items representing the history of the agriculture in our area. A lot of the items, the young generation has probably never seen before.”

Everything took place at the Humboldt Vintage Club which is just outside of the city.

For an organization which is all volunteer base, Hergott mentioned how important the support of the community is, year in and year out.

“I would like to thank all the members that participated, help prepare and run the event because there was a lot of stuff going on. We also do get some very good sponsorship here in town from some of the businesses, which really helps out.”
