TWO MILES FOR MARY

Two Miles for Mary Radiothon returns Thursday

Sep 28, 2022 | 8:00 AM

It’s that time of year again when the community will come together to support seniors’ transportation in Prince Albert.

The Two Miles for Mary Radiothon will take place on Thursday, September 29 on 900 CKBI.

The date is a change from its traditional slot on a Friday but due to the national holiday, organizers moved it to the day before.

Marilyn Pedersen with Two Miles for Mary said they can’t wait for the 35th year of the radiothon to get underway.

“When the pandemic started, we were quite concerned with whether the radiothon was going to do it for us. It’s just amazing that it has.”

Last year, the event raised over $22,000 for seniors’ transportation, which Pedersen said was the most they raised in the last few years.

The money is used to keep the seniors’ transportation program offered by Prince Albert Community Service Centre going in the city.

So how does Prince Albert get involved in the annual fundraiser?

“All they have to do is tune in because it’s always a fun thing,” said Pedersen. “Listen to all the donors calling in, that’s what we ask people to do is phone in with their donations. Without the contributions, I don’t know how we would be able to offer the services. It is definitely needed.”

As for the name, Pedersen wanted to make sure everyone knows the story behind it.

“Way back, the average distance that a senior’s trip in the community was two miles. Especially 35 years ago, Mary was still a very common name, hence the Two Miles for Mary.”

Tune into 900 CKBI from 8-10 a.m. for this year’s Two Miles for Mary Radiothon.
