PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Northern Bears took a hard loss on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Saskatoon Stars 5-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The loss comes after getting shutout by the Stars Saturday afternoon.

Despite the score on the board, there are many positives to takeaway from the game. According to Bears head coach Steve Young, what happened in the third period was exactly what he wants to see from his team.

“I think it’s important for our hockey club to understand that we have to work hard no matter what the score is,” said Young. “I’m very happy that they didn’t give up, in the third they worked hard and we got shots and opportunities and that’s what we need as a team.”

Kassie Ferster and Jasmine Kohl both scored for PA while Ferster added an assist. Tristyn Endicott, Julia Cey, and Sasha Malenfant also potted assists for the Bears.

For Saskatoon, Jocelyn Fiala, Mackenzie Mawson, Grace Millar, Sage Babey, and Kolbee Ashe each found the back of the net for the Stars.

PA netminder Annika Neufeldt made 28 save in the loss as the Bears fall to 0-3-0-0 on the campaign.

Saskatoon goalie Ava Drabyk stopped 25 of 27 as the Stars improve to 2-0-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

A tough crack at it in the opening period with the Bears trailing big after the first. The Stars found themselves up 3-0 thanks to goals from Jocelyn Fiala, Mackenzie Mawson, and Grace Millar.

Saskatoon added two more in the second, both on the powerplay. Sage Babey and Kolbee Ashe found the back of the net to extend the Stars lead to five.

But the Bears weren’t going to give up that easy and it was proven early in the third.

PA scored less than a minute into the frame on the powerplay with Kassie Ferster scoring her first of the year in tight to shave into the Stars lead.

Just over a minute later and the Bears struck again on the powerplay. A scrum in front of the Saskatoon net resulted in Jasmine Kohl jamming the puck in to make it 5-2.

But the with the clock ticking down, the Bears ran out of time as the Saskatoon Stars swept the weekend set against Prince Albert.

The Bears are now off to the Queen City for their next set of games to take on the Regina Rebels next weekend.
