During a food drive held on Saturday, the Prince Albert Walmart presented the food bank with a cheque for nearly $18,000.

That money was raised throughout the year from donations during every checkout at the tills.

Executive Director of the Prince Albert Food Bank Kim Scruby said they also received plenty of support during their drive.

“We haven’t tallied everything up right now, but I would say about $800,” he said. “We got a decent amount of food donated as well; it was everything we needed.”

The organization’s donations are very much needed as they see more people coming in to collect hampers.

“We’ve been getting busy since early summer and every month we seem to be going up a bit more,” Scruby said. “We’re a little over 1,150 hampers a month, and that’s around 3,000 people in total. About 47 per cent of that is children.”

Thankfully, Scruby said more people are coming in to donate food, money, and even locally grown produce after a slow summer. Demand is expected to only grow as the winter months approach and the Christmas season is around the corner.
