Pat Canadians hand Mintos first loss of season

REGINA, SK – The Regina Pat Canadians had everything going for them on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Prince Albert Mintos 6-1 at the Co-Operators Centre.

The loss comes 24 hours after toppling the Moose Jaw Windmar Warriors 3-2 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Logan Pickford and Carson Olsen were the lone point-getters in the contest, with Pickford scoring and Olsen collecting the assist.

Casey Brown was the leader in points for Regina on Sunday, collecting a hat-trick with an assist. Zayden Sadlemyer had two goals, Ryan Zaremba had a goal and an assist, and Nolan Stevenson along with P.A. Raiders prospect Luke Moroz each had two helpers on the afternoon.

Mintos netminder Brady Holtvogt stopped 25 of 31 shots as the P.A. falls to 3-1-0-0 on the campaign.

Pat Canadians goalie Taylor Tabashniuk made 11 saves to collect the win as Regina improves to 4-0-0-0 on the year.

A tough crack at it in the opening period for the Mintos, giving up two goals in the first twenty thanks to efforts from Zaremba and Sadlemyer.

A more evenly matched second period with both teams finding the back of the net. The Mintos got the board first in the second with Pickford burying his team-leading fourth goal of the season. But Regina would quickly restore their two-goal lead with Sadlemyer potting his second of the game. The Pat Canadians led 3-1 after two.

Things went south in the third for P.A. with Brown scoring three times in the frame for Regina to collect the natural hat-trick as the Pat Canadians topple the P.A. Mintos, 6-1.

The Mintos continue their four-game road trip on Wednesday night when they head west to the Battlefords to take on the Stars.
