Free drive-in movie offered in La Ronge Thursday evening

Lake Country Co-op and the Town of La Ronge are teaming up to organize a drive-in showing of Sing 2.

The event will occur Thursday evening at the La Ronge Co-op Food Store parking lot. Entry begins at 7 p.m. and showtime is set for 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free, there will be complimentary popcorn and water, and the first 50 vehicles will receive two coupons for free small sundaes from Dairy Queen Grill and Chill.

“We are expecting a good turnout today,” La Ronge community services manager Connor Tessier said. “We’re so lucky to have the good weather that I think everyone will be willing to come out to an event like this. That’s why we went with the drive-in option because we weren’t sure what the weather was going to be like whether it was going to be a warm night or cold night.”

Sing 2 is an American musical comedy film with an ensemble cast featuring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, and others. It was theatrically released in December 2021 and it has a runtime of 110 minutes.

Tessier explained Co-op and the municipality are cost-sharing the event to rent the screen and pay for the food provided. Admission will be done on a first-come, first-served basis and a maximum of 60 vehicles will be permitted entry.

“We hope to see everyone out there tonight and come early, come at 7 p.m., so you can be one of the first 50 cars to get some free ice cream,” Tessier said.
